LankaPay and Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) have officially rolled out a cross-border QR payment system, providing a more secure and efficient way to handle digital transactions between Sri Lanka and Nepal.

This milestone was announced during a special ceremony in Colombo, attended by senior representatives from Nepal Rastra Bank, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and various financial institutions.

With the cross-border QR payment system in place, Nepali travelers can now use connectIPS or mobile banking apps to scan and pay at over 400,000 LankaQR merchants across Sri Lanka.

The system leverages national payment infrastructures to ensure safe, real-time, and cashless transactions, strengthening the digital ecosystem between the two nations.

Beyond tourism, this integration opens new international market opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Laxmi Sunrise Bank is the first to roll out this service. Currently, users can link their dollar cards/instruments issued by the bank to the connectIPS app to make payments in Sri Lanka.

Nepal and Sri Lanka share deep-rooted historical, cultural, and religious connections. This digital bridge is a significant step toward regional interoperability in South Asia, aiming to make financial services more inclusive while fostering trade and tourism.
