Fly Dubai will operate daily flights from Pokhara starting from September 23. According to Pokhara Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has granted permission to Fly Dubai to fly.
Fly Dubai will land at Dubai International Airport from Pokhara using a 167-seat Boeing 737 plane. The aircraft, which will land in Pokhara at 6:15 pm, will take off for Dubai at 7:15 pm. The journey will take about 5 hours, according to the CAAN.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, in the first phase, Fly Dubai has obtained a flight permit for only 1 month.
According to Pokhara Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, this flight was made possible after a technical team of Fly Dubai studied Pokhara Airport a few days ago.
Last Tuesday, a technical team including Adrian Lucas, Vice President of Risk Management of Fly Dubai of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), conducted a detailed on-site inspection of Pokhara International Airport.
Following the inspection, Vice President Lucas said he had a 6-hour in-depth discussion with Pokhara International Airport General Manager Jagannath Niraula and the airport's technical team about the feasibility of daily flights from Pokhara to Dubai.
During the meeting, the team learned about the airport's runway, security system, technical infrastructure and various aspects of flight operations. Lucas stated that Pokhara International Airport is 'fully correct and ready' in all technical and security aspects for regular international flights and pledged to start flights as soon as possible.
With the launch of Fly Dubai from Pokhara, Pokhara will be connected to the main city as an international transit point and from there, its connections will expand to 300 other cities around the world.
"This is not just a matter of adding an air service, it is also a historic opportunity to enhance Pokhara's international identity, promote tourism, expand economic activities and decentralize Kathmandu-centric air traffic. With the establishment of direct air links with Dubai, Pokhara will be accessible to more than 300 cities including the Middle East, Europe, and Africa," said Mayor Acharya.
