2.5 million farmers enrolled in Farmer Registration System

Around 2.5 million farmers have been enlisted in the Farmer Registration System of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment.

The farmers were registered based on the details of land and production. Officer at the Agriculture Information Centre, Sanjeev Pandit, shared that the farmers were enlisted through online system with an objective of providing necessary subsidies and facilities to increase production.

He mentioned that activities were underway to enlist remaining more than 1.6 million farmers as the population of farmers is 4.130 million people are depend on agriculture, as per Agriculture Census, 2078.

After listing all farmers, the ministry has set a plan to classify farmers into four categories—subsistence farmers, small farmers, medium farmers and large farmers, Pandit added, stating that identity cards would be distributed as well as the farmers would be connected to digital information system after classification.

It would be easier to the government to provide various facilities including grants, chemical fertilizer, seeds and service management on the basis of the farmer identity cards.

Information and details of the farmers have been collected in coordination with local levels across the country.

The Centre has also called the farmers to register their names in the program.
