Amaresh Kumar Singh, a lawmaker from ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has strongly criticized the budget presented by his own government. Speaking at the parliamentary meeting on Thursday, Singh expressed deep skepticism about the budget's implementation, calling it an "inflated balloon" that looks large but lacks substance.
Singh argued that the budget fails to address youth employment, despite recent youth-led Gen-Z movements signaling a desperate need for jobs. He noted that while government employees received a 21% salary hike, the budget offers nothing to the poor, farmers, or marginalized communities like the Musahar, Dalit, and Chepang. He also criticized the administration for relying heavily on an estimated 450 billion rupees in internal loans without a solid plan for capital expenditure.
Raising concerns over the country's economic climate, the Members of Parliament (MPs) stated that a prevailing "atmosphere of fear" is discouraging business investments, leaving bank deposits unutilized. Singh, an original signatory of the constitution, further argued that imposing taxes on education and health violates citizens' fundamental constitutional rights.
Finally, Singh pointed out a lack of vision for local production and public infrastructure, noting that while Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle studied at the prestigious Budhanilkantha School, he failed to introduce programs to strengthen public schools or promote local products like Jumla's apples. He concluded that the country cannot prosper as long as its economy relies entirely on foreign remittances while agricultural lands remain barren.
