According to Spokesperson at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Bibhuti Pokharel, June 13 is a tentative date for the monsoon arrival in Nepal. This time, we are, however, bound to wait for a few more days as the data obtained from satellites and mathematical weather forecasting suggest.
The El Nino phenomenon developing in the Pacific Ocean is further strengthening, which is likely to affect the monsoon onset in Nepal. She said that the monsoon in South Asia, including in Nepal, may weaken due to the development of El Nino.
The monsoon was delayed in Nepal in 1972, 1982, 1983, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2009, 2016, 2019 and 2023.
