Maoist Center leader Baburam Gautam has been appointed as the speaker of Pradesh 1 Provincial Assembly.
A meeting of the Provincial Assembly today appointed Gautam to the post unopposed. Gautam had been elected as a province lawmaker from Okhaldhunga-2.
CPN (UML) lawmaker Rewati Raman Bhandari proposed Gautam as a candidate to the post and his candidacy was seconded by Maoist Center leader Narayan Burja Magar and Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader Gopal Bahadur Bishwakarma.
Senior lawmaker Gaya Nandan Mandal, who chaired the assembly meeting, announced his election to the post of speaker.
Similarly, UML will take the post of deputy speaker as the agreement in the coalition partners. Four candidates from the party are in the fray for the post of the deputy speaker.
The election for the post of deputy speaker is set to be held for January 14.
