Special Court Kathmandu convicted the former commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Raj Narayan Pathak, of corruption.
Issuing a verdict on Thursday, a division bench of judges led by Special Court chair Shree Kanta Paudel, and Yamuna Bhattarai and Balabhadra Bastola sent Pathak to three years and three months in jail along with a fine of Rs 3.9 million.
Pathak has been convicted of corruption as per Section 24 of the Corruption Prevention Act 2002, according to Dipendra Nath Yogi, the spokesperson of the Special Court.
The former antigraft commissioner had been accused of taking Rs 7.8 million in bribes by promising to settle a land-related dispute of Nepal Engineering College based in Duwakot, Bhaktapur three years and 10 months ago.
Nepalkhabar had divulged the bribe scam of Rs 7.8 million taken by CIAA Commissioner Pathak for the first time on February 13, 2019.
After the videos were leaked, Pathak resigned as CIAA commissioner on February 15, 2019.
Following the disclosure of Pathak's bribe scam, the CIAA had investigated the case after suspending him from the service.
The Court has also sentenced Lambodar Neupane, former Chairman of the college, to three years in prison along with a fine of Rs 3.9 million for his involvement in bribing Pathak.
