Chief Minister of Province 1 Hikmat Karki is taking the vote of confidence at 1 pm today (Friday).

CPN (UML) parliamentary party (PP) leader Karki had been appointed as the chief minister of the province with the support of 60 lawmakers including 40 from CPN (UML), 13 from CPN (Maoist Center), six from Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one from Janata Samajbadi Party on January 8.

There is a provision that the chief minister appointed in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the constitution has to take the vote of confidence within 30 days after the appointment of the chief minister.

Support of at least 47 lawmakers are required to take the vote of confidence in the 93-member provincial assembly of Province 1.

Main opposition Nepali Congress and CPN (Unified Socialist) have not yet decided on the vote of confidence.

NC parliamentary PP leader Uddhav Thapa said the meeting called for 11 am will take a decision to this effect.

The Maoist Center is also dissatisfied with the coalition’s decision to allow the Karki to lead the government for a five-year full term.

Maoist Center is making preparations to send Jeevan Acharya and Durga Chapagain as ministers to the cabinet.

Similarly, UML’s Buddhi Kumar Raj Bhandari is participating as a minister in the cabinet.

Karki had formed a small cabinet with UML lawmaker Til Kumar Nembang, RPP’s Bhakti Prasad Sitaula and JSP’s Nirmala Limbu as ministers last Monday.
