RPP’s Bhuwan Pathak elected Bagmati’s speaker

Bhuwan Pathak of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has been elected as the speaker of Bagmati Province Assembly.

Three lawmakers -- Pathak from RPP, Shiva Raj Adhikari from Nepali Congress and Srijana Saiju of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party -- had registered their candidacies for the post.

Newly elected Pathak is a lawmaker from Kathmandu under the proportional representation category.

He won the elections with 62 votes while his closest contender Adhikari obtained 36 votes. Similarly, Srijana Saiju obtained three votes.

In the 110-member Bagmati Province Assembly, CPN (UML) has 27 lawmakers, Nepali Congress 27, Maoist Center 21, RPP 13 and NWPP has 3 lawmakers. Likewisse, CPN (Unified Socialist) has 7 and Hamro Nepali Party has two seats.

UML, RPP, Maoist Center and Hamro Nepali Party have voted for Pathak.
