Toddler killed, mother critically injured in Dolakha landslide

A toddler has died and its mother sustained critical injuries after being buried in a landslide in Dolakha.

According to the District Police Office, Dolakha, the four-month-old daughter of 19-year-old Sharmila Thami of Kalinchowk Rural Municipality-1, Kyangpol, died after being hit by a landslide.

Information Officer of the District Police Office, Dolakha, Santosh Kumar Khadka, informed that Sharmila was seriously injured in the incident.

Sharmila was returning home with her daughter in a car from her father's house in Bhimeshwar Municipality-1, Suspa, at 9 pm yesterday.

According to the police, the incident took place when Sharmila got out of the car and walked after the road was blocked by a landslide at Kyangpol Helekpathali on the Sunkhani-Sangwa road section.

The seriously injured mother and daughter were rescued by locals and sent to the branch hospital of Dhulikhel Hospital in Dolakha. The doctor pronounced the daughter dead immediately after she was taken to the hospital.

Mother Sharmila was taken to Kathmandu for further treatment after receiving first aid, the police said.
