UML's Sirjana Danuwar elected deputy speaker of Province 1

UML leader Sirjana Danuwar.

Sirjana Danuwar has been elected as the deputy speaker of the Province 1 Assembly.

A meeting of the Province Assembly held this morning elected Dhanuwar as the deputy speaker of the province with 57 votes.

Forty-six-year-old CPN (UML) leader Danuwar defeated Leela Kumar Rai of the Nepali Congress with a difference of 24 votes. Rai obtained 33 votes.

Danuwar was backed by UML (40), CPN (Maoist Center) (13), RPP (5), and JSP (1).

Speaker Baburam Gautam announced Danuwar's election to the post of deputy speaker of the province.

A total of 90 lawmakers were present in the 93-member Province 1 Assembly.

Nepali Congress and CPN (Unified Socialist) have 29 and four lawmakers, respectively.

Support of 47 lawmakers is required to form a simple majority in Province 1.
