Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' asserted that the government formed following the parliamentary elections has set social justice, good-governance and prosperity as its key targets.

In the message of best wishes on the Maghe Sankranti (the first day of the Nepali month Magh) which is observed today by Tharu community people as their new year and as the major festival by Magar community, PM Dahal assured that the incumbent government which had gained a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives was committed towards bringing about qualitative changes in the lives of people.

On the occasion of the Maghe Sankranti, Dahal appealed to all Nepalis to observe this festival acknowledging it as a historic opportunity to further strengthen national unity, goodwill and collaboration as well as to join efforts to achieve the targets of the government.

He wished that may this festival inspire all Nepalis to be united for country's development as well as to maintain collaboration, cohesion and religious tolerance thereby further consolidating national unity.

Stating that Nepal is a beautiful country endowed with qualities such as multiple ethnicity, languages, cultures and religions, the newly appointed Prime Minister viewed that unity in diversity stood as our common identity.

According to him, each ethnic community and communities with various religious faiths were unique and had their own cultural significance. He opined that these kinds of festivities had played an important role in establishing amity, unity and goodwill.

The Head of the Government stated that in a country like ours having geographical, ethnicity and cultural diversity, there was a tradition of observing the same festival in different way by different ethnic groups, one for Maghe Sankranti.

The festival is marked in Tharu community with great fervor as the New Year while it is celebrated as the major festival by Magar community. The other ethnic groups and communities observe this day as per their own rituals and traditions.
