CPN (UML) has decided to field Standing Committee member Devraj Ghimire for the post of speaker.
According to a notice published by the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the parties are filing nominations for the post from 1 to 4 pm today.
“Our party has proposed Devraj Ghimire for the post of Speaker,” a UML leader told Nepalkhabar.
Ghimire, who is elected as a lawmker from Jhapa-2, is considered close to UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.
According to the agreement reached among the coalition partners, the speaker’s post has gone to the UML.
Earlier, there had been talks that Deputy General Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung, Secretary Chhabilal Bishwakarma and leader Bidya Bhattarai would become the speaker.
