Karnali’s CM Sharma takes confidence vote

Chief Minister of Karnali Province Raj Kumar Sharma took the vote of confidence on Friday.

A total of 25 lawmakers including 13 lawmakers from the CPN (Maoist Center), nine from CPN (UML), one each from CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one independent lawmaker voted for Chief Minister Sharma in a province assembly meeting today.

 Fourteen lawmakers voted against Sharma.

Out of the 40 lawmakers, 39 took part while speaker Nanda Gurung (UML) did not take part in the voting.

There is a constitutional provision that the chief minister has to take the vote of confidence within 30 days of appointment.

Maoist Center’s parliamentary party leader Sharma had been appointed as the Chief Minister of Karnali Province on January 11.
