The fourth edition of Gurkha Trailblazer, a charity race, is set to be held in Hong Kong on February 4, 2023, said GCT Hong Kong, the organizer.
This marathon event is being organized again after the COVI-19 pandemic subsided.
The event is named in honor of the Nepali soldiers (Gurkhas) who lost their lives in global conflicts fighting for peace and freedom.
The organizer has said that this event will help improve teaching quality, educational resources, and infrastructure such as libraries, toilets, clean water, safe classrooms, and computers.
"The event will support the Gurkha Cemeteries Trust Online Education Scholarships fund for Nepali youth in Hong Kong. It will also help preserve and promote Gurkha history in Hong Kong. CWS will use its share of proceeds to help improve government schools in Nepal," reads the statement issued by the organizer.
By making schools safer, more fun, and more interesting, children will stay in school longer and therefore be better protected from becoming victims of trafficking and exploitation.
"Both of our charity events have a common objective to impact the community," the organizer said.
The race also brought home the "2018 Best New Race" award at the Gonerunning Hong Kong Trail Running Awards. In 2019 it was also nominated in two categories for Best New Race and Best Race.
The Gurkhas made a significant contribution to maintaining social stability in Hong Kong during unsettling times, enabling the Hong Kong SAR to become the world city it is today.
From 1948 to 1997, Gurkha soldiers secured the border, provided humanitarian support during natural disasters, helped in environmental protection efforts and bomb disposal, and initiated one of the city’s biggest annual charity events.
Meanwhile, the organizer has urged one and all to extend support to make the charity event a huge success.
