Main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to run for the presidency.
The decision was taken at a meeting of party’s present and former office-bearers held at Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba's residence in Dhumbarahi on Monday.
"We have decided to run for the presidency," Dr. Shashank Koirala said.
According to him, there was no discussion about any individual candidate.
The NC, which has given a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', is going to contest the presidential election.
Earlier, the NC had fielded candidates in the elections of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prachanda has said that the preparations have progressed so that the president is finalized through national consensus.
