Home Minister Lamichhane’s citizenship case pending

Next hearing on Friday

A hearing on the citizenship case of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has been kept under observation.

On Wednesday, writ petitioners finished their arguments before the Constitutional Bench of Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, Justices Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Dr. Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Anil Kumar Sinha.  

Advocates Sushil Panta, Sunil Pokharel along with joint attorney Sanjeev Raj Regmi took the stand on behalf of Home Minister Lamichhane.

Earlier, advocates on behalf of the petitioners, Rabi Raj Basaula, Amrit Kharel and Niitika Dhungana, Raman Karna, Surendra Bhandari presented their arguments on the case.

As the hearing on the case did not complete today, the next hearing is scheduled for Friday.

In the previous hearing, the court had sought the relevant documents from the Department of Immigration, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the District Administration Office. It has been reported that all the documents and details have been presented before the court.

It may be noted that advocates Rabiraj Basaula, Yubaraj Poudel and others had filed a writ petition at the apex court posing questions over the eligibility of Home Minister Lamichhane, also the president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, as a member of parliament.
