SC likely to give final verdict today as hearing on HM Lamichhane’s citizenship case concludes

The hearing on the citizenship case of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has been completed in the Constitutional Bench on Friday.

A constitutional bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, Justices Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Dr. Aananda Mohan Bhattarai and Anil Kumar Sinha has concluded the hearing today.

Advocates have finished their arguments on behalf of the complainants and defendants and the Supreme Court likely to give a final verdict on the cast today.

On Friday, advocate Narendra KC presented his arguments on the case on behalf of Lamichhane while  Surendra Bhandari among others pleaded on the case on behalf of the petitioners.

Since the issue is high-profile, people in general are curious to know about it and patiently awaiting the Supreme Court verdict. 

Meanwhile, the security situation has been tightened on and around the premises of the Supreme Court to preempt any untoward incidents that may occur following the verdict. 

The hearing on the case had been postponed for today since it did not conclude on Wednesday.

In the previous hearing, the court had sought the relevant documents from the Department of Immigration, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the District Administration Office. It has been reported that all the documents and details have been presented before the court.

It may be noted that advocates Rabiraj Basaula, Yubaraj Poudel and others had filed a writ petition at the apex court posing questions over the eligibility of Home Minister Lamichhane, also the president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, as a member of parliament.
