President Bhandari pays tribute to martyrs

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has paid tribute to all known and unknown martyrs, including Sukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha, who sacrificed their precious lives for civil liberty, establishment of democracy and protection of nationality.

Issuing a message on the occasion of the Martyrs Day today, President Bhandari said it is the day of special commemoration of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the people and country.

Magh 16 is observed as the Martyrs Day in memory of the heroic deed of those who fought against tyrannical rulers and systems over times so that Nepali people became free and sovereign.

The freedom and rights we are enjoying today is the result of the martyrdom, President Bhandari stated in the message, adding that our initiatives towards sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity would be a true tribute to the martyrs.

She wished the Martyrs Day inspired everyone to play constructive roles from their sides to realize the martyr’s dream of just, equitable and civilized society and prosperous nation.
