US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, has inquired about the Nepal government formed by the seven-party ruling coalition.
US diplomat, who arrived on Sunday evening on a two-day visit to Nepal, raised concerns about the incumbent government during a meeting with CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli today.
On Monday, she reached the office of the parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar along with the ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, and inquired about the incumbent government in the meeting.
According to Oli’s secretariat, Oli briefed the US diplomat about the current government after the latter voiced concerns about it.
During the meeting with Oli, Nuland inquired him about the coalition government and its standpoint on America.
“In response to Nuland’s query, Oli said a coalition government was formed with the support from seven political parties including some independent lawmakers,” a member of the Oli’s secretariat quoted Oli as saying, “This government is moving ahead with a common minimum program (CMP).”
In the meeting, Oli underlined the importance of foreign investment saying that the objective of the incumbent government is the development and prosperity.
“Nepal is moving on its way towards development and prosperity,” he said, “We are in need of foreign investment.”
Similarly, bilateral relations, mutual interests and cooperation between the two countries were discussed in the meeting.
Oli also thanked the US for its unyielding support to Nepal in the sector of economic, social and physical infrastructure development of the country and expressed hope that it would continue in the days ahead.
In the meeting, Nuland stressed the need for more industrial activities in Nepal, signaling that the US would cooperate for it provided a conducive environment were created in the country.
Also participating in the meeting was Dr. Anjan Shakya, the secretary at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the UML.
