A writ has been filed at the Election Commission (EC) demanding scrapping of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) led by Rabi Lamichhane.

Yubraj Paudel has filed a writ petition at the EC seeking the scrapping of the RSP arguing that the citizenship used while registering the party was invalid.

The Supreme Court (SC) on January 27 issued the verdict declaring Lamichhane a non-citizen on ground of not having a valid citizenship certificate.

Lamichhane’s citizenship was not recognized as valid since he failed to submit a proof of renouncing his American citizenship to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.

The RSP had been registered in the EC on July 1, 2022.

Yubaraj had also filed a writ petition against Lamichhane in the Supreme Court. Hearing the writ petition, the SC had declared him a non-citizen.

Similarly, he had lodged a complaint at the Immigration Department and the Police Range, Kathmandu seeking an action against Lamichhane. However, they had denied registering the applications.
