Indian cricketer Monty Desai has been appointed as the chief coach of the National Cricket Team of Nepal.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Monday appointed Desai to the post.

The Nepali cricket governing body announced Desai as the new chief coach in a press meet organized at Hyatt Hotel today.

Desai is not the new name to Nepali Cricket Team. He had worked as a batting consultant for Nepali U-19 National Cricket Team in 2017.

He had also worked in the National Cricket Team of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in 2015.

The post of chief coach had been lying vacant after former chief coach Manoj Prabhakar resigned.

Who is Desai?

Indian Monty Desai is the batting coach of West Indies. Desai came to Nepal through a competition.

Desai came to Nepal after his contract with the West Indies ended. Desai, who closely observes Nepali cricket, is expected to improve Nepal's batting line.

Earlier in 2017, when the Nepali U-19 team beat India, Monty was Nepal's batting consultant.

In 2015, Desai was with the Nepali team in the World T20 qualifiers in Ireland and Scotland.

Prior to that, Desai was part of the Nepali team in the 2014 World Cup.
