All Quiet on the Western Front, an epic about World War One, dominated the Baftas by winning seven categories, including best film.

Also, it received awards for best adapted screenplay, best foreign language film, and best director for Edward Berger.

With seven prizes, it has surpassed the Bafta record for the most accolades received by a non-English language film.

With awards for outstanding British film and two acting performances, The Banshees of Inisherin was one of the other notable winners.

The big winners

  • 7 - All Quiet on the Western Front
  • 4 - The Banshees of Inisherin
  • 4 - Elvis

Berger stated the filmmakers "grew up with a responsibility to share the narrative" and were honored the public had "received it with overwhelming love" in his acceptance speech for best film not in the English language.

Also, he paid respect to those engaged in the conflict in Ukraine and informed the audience that his daughter Matilda, who had inspired him after reading the novel in school, had helped him overcome his own "fear" about filming the movie.

Although having an Irish background and plot, the film was recognized as an exceptional British production, and Irish actors Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan received best supporting actress and actor awards.

Martin McDonagh, the director, originally made light of his accomplishment by asking, "Best 'what' award?" However he then explained that the movie qualified for the category because Channel 4 had funded it.

He also accepted the honor for the best screenplay that was innovative. Creating such a depressing movie shouldn't have been this much pleasure, but it was thanks to [the ensemble]," he added in his remarks.

Keoghan, who was raised in a foster home for a period as a youngster and is from Dublin, dedicated his award for best supporting actor to "the kids from the neighborhood that I came from that are aspiring to achieve something."

Condon informed McDonagh in her own acceptance speech: "I appreciate all the roles you have provided me over the course of my career. They make me incredibly proud to be Irish."

The Elvis Presley biography directed by Baz Luhrmann was another huge winner, taking home four awards for outstanding leading actor, costume design, make-up, and hair.

In his victory speech, Austin Butler, who portrayed the renowned singer in Elvis, said the following: "This is genuinely remarkable. I am in awe of you, my fellow nominees. I am incredibly appreciative of all the times we have had together."

Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis's daughter, passed away last month, shortly after the movie won the Golden Globe.
