The Supreme Court (SC) has allowed rape-accused cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane to go abroad.
Hearing the Lamichhane’s writ petition today, the SC granted him permission to go abroad with the ruling that he should not be sent back to prison.
The petition filed by Lamichhane seeking to remove the ban on going abroad and the petition filed by the public prosecutor's office on behalf of the victim to keep him in custody were heard together.
A joint bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Kumar Chundal issued the verdict, giving respite to Lamichhane.
Senior advocate Raman Shrestha, advocates Saroj Krishna Ghimire, Roshani Paudel and Rameshwar Neupane argued on behalf of Lamichhane on today (Monday).
On behalf of the public prosecutor, Sanjeev Raj Regmi, the joint attorney at the Attorney General's Office, argued on behalf of the victim.
