Neymar, a striker for Paris Saint-Germain, will need surgery on his injured ankle and will likely miss the remainder of the season.

After PSG's 4-3 victory against Lille at home on February 19, the Brazil forward was helped off the field with a broken right ankle.

PSG said the 31-year-old has suffered many "instances of instability in his right ankle" during recent years and surgery is needed to "prevent a major risk of recurrence".

They stated that before he can begin training, it would be three to four months.

Throughout the previous few years, Neymar has experienced numerous right foot injuries.

He sustained an injury during Brazil's opening group game against Serbia at the 2022 World Cup, which caused him to miss two of their games.

In addition to missing the 2019 Copa America, the former Barcelona player lost many weeks of 2021 due to ligament tears in his right ankle.

At PSG this season, he has scored 13 goals in Ligue 1 and provided another 10 assists.

In pursuit of their 11th French top-flight championship, Christophe Galtier's team leads the standings by eight points.

On Wednesday, they play German team Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie, hoping to erase a 1-0 deficit from the first game.

On June 3 against Clermont, they will play their penultimate league game of the year before the Champions League final on June 10.
