CPC's 20th party congress held in Beijing, China last week.
Days after the conclusion of the Chinese Communist Party's 20th National Congress, the Chinese leadership has started a major reshuffle at the country's central and provincial level.
According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), Beijing mayor Chen Jining has been promoted to Communist Party chief of Shanghai.
The official announcement was made on Friday morning by state news agency Xinhua. Chen reached Shanghai on Thursday evening.
The 58-year-old is an environmental scientist who studied at Tsinghua University, and also has a doctorate from Imperial College London.
Likewise, former propaganda boss of China's CPC Huang Kunming is expected to take the top job in Guangdong province, SCMP reported citing according t multiple sources with knowledge of the matter.
It will be one of a number of key appointments that are expected to follow the ruling Communist Party’s national congress last week after a new line-up of the top leadership was unveiled on Sunday, the SCMP said in its report.
Huang, who has been the top propaganda and ideology official since 2017, is expected to replace Li Xi as party secretary of Guangdong province, according to the sources. Li was promoted to the Politburo Standing Committee during last week’s party congress and he has also taken over as head of the party’s anti-corruption watchdog.
