A mother and a son were found dead on the bank of the Karnali River in Achham.

According to District Police Office Achham, 22-year-old Kamala Kumari Budha of Dhakari Rural Municipality-4 and her five-month-old baby (son) were found dead on the banks of the Karnali River.

Kamala had gone out of contact since March 30. She left home with her son to go to the local Gyanmandir Medical Center for treatment and then went missing.

Achham police found the bodies of the mother and son on the banks of the Karnali River after nine days of disappearance.

A preliminary investigation of the police has revealed that there is a family dispute between husband Dharma Bahadur Saud and the deceased Kamala. The exact cause of death has not been revealed. Husband Dharma Bahadur is under police custody.

"On the prima facie, it seems that she died due to drowning, now we are bringing the body to the hospital for post-mortem," Police Inspector Kailash Bista said, "interrogation with the family and the post-mortem report will reveal more about the incident."

Acting on a tip-off that the dead body was found, four policemen were deployed under the leadership of Assistant Sub Inspector Amar Bahadur Khadka of the nearby local police station.

Triveni, where the body was found, is six hours away from the police station.
