Dil Bahadur Thapa alias Shambhu, the driver of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who fell from the roof of a house in Chitwan, died in the course of treatment on Tuesday.
According to sources at Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur, he passed away at 1:30 pm today.
Shambhu, a 39-year-old resident of Sindhupalchowk, Bahrabise Municipality-3, who was severely injured after falling off the roof of the house in the wee hours of April 17, was first admitted to the College of Medical Sciences, Bharatpur.
Thapa, who suffered a severe head injuries, was also operated on in Bharatpur itself.
He was then brought to Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur in an army helicopter on April 18 for further treatment with the consent of the doctors involved in his treatment and his family members, according to Chairman Lamichhane.
Shambhu fell from the roof and was injured and unconscious. The police are investigating reason why and how he fell from the roof, but the exact reason is yet to be made public.
According to sources at Mediciti Hospital, Thapa was unconscious following head injuries and was being treated on a ventilator.
Although Thapa's health showed signs of improvement a few days ago, his condition deteriorated again from Friday. Thapa, who was in the condition of 'brain death', passed away this afternoon.
Driver Thapa's body has been taken to Patan Hospital for post-mortem. His body will be handed over to his family for last rites after post-mortem at the hospital.
