Devotees have flocked to Buddhist pilgrimage sites across the country today on the occasion of the 2567th Buddha Jayanti.

Lumbini in Rupandehi, Swayambhu in Kathmandu, and other Buddhist religious sites have been chock-a-block with pilgrims since early morning.

Special pujas are performed at Bauddhanath and Swayambhunath in the Kathmandu Valley on the occasion.

The Astu Dhatu of Buddha is kept for homage in the Ananda Kuti Vihara on the Swayambhu premises.

Today, Siddhartha Gautama, who was born as the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is celebrated to commemorate his contributions for the establishment of world peace.

Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini of Rupandehi in 563 BC, i.e., 2,567 years ago to father King Suddhodhan and mother Mayadevi on the full moon day of Baisakh Shukla Purnima.

Buddha Jayanti is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Baisakh Shukla Purnima.
