Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song have held a courtesy meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said that there is a historical friendly relationship between China and Nepal.
Shrestha said that Nepali land will not be used against China under any circumstances and Nepal is always committed to one China policy.
Shrestha thanked the Tibet Autonomous Region of China for the 21 drones provided to the Nepal Police.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha, bilateral meetings should be continued in the districts where the borders of the two countries are connected and the border disputes, if any, should be settled through coordination.
Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha expressed his happiness that Tatopani, Rasuwa and Hilsa checkpoints were fully operational again and requested Ambassador Song to initiate the operation of more Nepal-China border checkpoints as soon as possible.
Shrestha also urged to take the initiative to open trade through Bajhang's Saipal, Darchula's Tinkar, Gorkha's Ruila and Mugu.
In response, Chinese Ambassador Song assured that he would take the initiative to this end at the earliest.
He said that he also concurred with Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha's opinion that border area officials should intensify their contact and hold parallel meetings to this effect.
Ambassador Song thanked Nepal for always supporting the one China policy. He said that the Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Nepal in 2019 and subsequent high-level visits have brought Nepal-China relations to a new height.
Appreciating the role played by Nepal's home administration in preventing Nepali territory from being used for anti-Chinese activities and protecting Chinese investments and property in Nepal, Ambassador Song said that he expects it to continue in the days ahead.
Song called for the necessary coordination in the implementation of the mutual legal assistance agreement signed during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal.
He also requested to facilitate arrangements for the immediate handing over of 21 drones to Nepal assisted by the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
