SC directs govt not to implement deal signed with GMR

Supreme Court (SC) has urged the government not to implement the agreement signed with Indian company GMR for the smooth financial management of the Upper Karnali hydropower project.

A single bench of Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada on Thursday issued an interim order in the name of the government and the Investment Board Nepal questioning the relevancy of extending the contract singned with GMR time and again.

Hearing the petition filed against the Office of Prime Minister filed by Water resources expert Ratan Bhandari, the Supreme Court has stated that there is no valid rationale behind extending contract of the project.  

The contract which was signed in 2071 BS had been extended for two years in the first time. Now it has been extended until 2081 BS.
