India will buy 10,000 megawatts of electricity in next 10 yrs: Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India will procure 10,000 megawatts of electricity from Nepal in the next 10 years.

He said this during a joint press conference with his Nepali counterpart Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ who is visiting India.

We needed infrastructure to create an alternative to electricity export from Nepal to India. An important decision has been taken to make our partnership a super hit', he said, “Long term power trade agreement has been completed between India and Nepal. We will import 10,000 megawatts of electricity from Nepal in the next 10 years.”

For that, the two countries have signed for the construction of Fukot Karnali and Lower Arun hydropower projects.

Indian Prime Minister Modi said that Nepal's water resources are very important for India and said that they will work together on this.
