Four Nepalis of a family killed in car-scooter collision in India

Four Nepali nationals have died when a car hit a scooter in Chakkarpur near Banbasan in the Indian State of Uttarakhand.

The deceased, who belong to the same family, died when a car and two scooters collided on Saturday afternoon.

According to Indian media reports, the deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Nem Bahadur Chand, his wife 56-year-old Saraswati, 27-year-old daughters-in-law Narmada Chand and 42-year-old Kalpana Chand of Ultakham, Bhimdatta Municipality 2, Kanchanpur, currently, staying in Mudeli village in Khatima, India.

They were returning to Mudeli on a scooter after worship when a speeding car hit both the scooters they were riding on. Nem Bahadur and his wife were riding on one scooter and two daughters-in-law were riding on the other when the car hit both of them.

The doctors declared them dead when they were taken to the Civil Hospital in Khatima for treatment.

"They used to live in Khatima because of their work, they also have land in Ultakham," said Uttam Prasad Bhatta, the ward chairman of Bhimdatta Municipality-2, "they used to move around."

The Chand family is grieving after the death of four people from the same family. The deceased Nem Bahadur's son Lalit also died in a road accident last year.

Nem Bahadur's sons Deepak and Prem now work in Chennai, India. After getting information about the incident, they are returning to Khatima.

The body of the deceased has been kept at the hospital for post-mortem. After the sons reach Khatima, the last rites will be performed at Sharada Ghat according to Hindu tradition.
