Comedian Marichman Shrestha popular known as 'Balchhi Dhurbe' has been arrested on the charge of promoting banned online betting.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Shrestha was arrested on the charge of advertising for online betting '1XBET'.
Balchhi Dhurbe has been dragged into this case after the police found illegal transactions worth Rs 640 million through '1XBET' only on Wednesday.
Actors including Balchhi Dhurbe have been promoting '1XBET', an online gambling platform, through their tele-serials and videos.
Balchhi Dhurbe has been kept at the Office of the Crime Investigation Office for investigation.
Shrestha, who stole limelight after playing the role of 'Balchi Dhurbe' in the comedy tele-serials 'Meri Bassai', has recently been seen in 'Halka Ramailo' and 'Juthe'. 'Halka Ramailo' and 'Juthe' --Nepali comedy tele-serials -- have been written and directed by Balchhi Dhurbe'.
The police informed that 15 other artists and YouTubers are also on the arrest list in this case.
