The screening of Indian films is being banned in Kathmandu and Pokhara cities from today due to the non-removal of the controversial dialogue in the South Indian film 'Adipurush'.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has banned Indian films from being screened in the cinemas within the city. After the dialogue 'Sita is the daughter of India' in the South Indian film 'Adipurush' was not removed in India, the metropolis has said that it will not be allowed to screen in the KMC.
The metropolis is going to deploy city police in the cinemas from early morning to ensure that Indian films are not being screened.
"If the film is allowed to be shown in other areas within the country and abroad, it will establish a misleading fact, so it is prohibited to screen any Indian films in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City until the objectionable parts are removed from the said film," KMC Mayor Balendra Shah said.
Likewise, Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality has also decided to ban the screening of Indian films until the flawed dialogue in Adipurush is rectified.
Pokhara Metropolitan Mayor Dhanraj Acharya has issued a press note ordering a ban on the broadcast of Indian films in the metropolis.
"The screening of Indian films within the city area will be banned from screening until the words 'Sita is the daughter of India' are removed from the South Indian film 'Adipurush'," reads the press note.
'Adipurush' is being criticized not only in Nepal but also in India for distorting facts of Ramayana.
