A Nepali film "A Road To A Village" has been selected for the 48th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), 2023. The film will be premiered in Toronto from September 7 to 17.
Set against the social backdrop of the Rai community, the film revolves around the transformation of a father-son relationship brought about by a newly constructed road in the remote eastern Himalayas of Nepal.
Issuing a press note, the film production company has expressed hope that the selection of this film will bring positivity to the Nepali film industry.
"It fills us with immense happiness to have our film chosen for this significant event. We believe that this selection not only brings positivity to the Nepali film industry but also holds the promise of making a positive impact on the global stage of the renowned film festivals," reads the press note.
Directed by Nabin Subba, the film delves deep into the dreams and struggles of a rural Nepali family when a road connects their once-remove village to the modern world. It was shot in various locations including Amchowk in Bhojpur, Bhojpur Bazaar, Khandbari in Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta and Sunsari.
The cast features actors such as Dayahang Rai, Pashupati Rai, Prasan Rai, Keshav Rai, Sumitra Rai, Raj Thapa, and Prem Subba among others.
The screenplay is written by Mahesh Rai and Nabin Subba. Josh Herum handled the cinematography, Kwan Pun Liung edited the film and Hedi Li composed the music.
Similarly, Minsho Limbu serves as the line producer for the film while Sanju Rai, Narahang Rai, Bhim Rai, and Devraj Rai, are the executive producers.
The film is a co-production between Chomolongma Production and Gaunghar Film Production, created under the banner of Menchhyam Pictures.
