Police on duty rob girls, five including ASI arrested

A bail-hearing is taking place on the robbery case involving Assistant Sub Inspector of Nepal Police Sun Bahadur Tamang today.

The bail-hearing is taking place after the affidavits were taken from all the defendants on Tuesday. Today’s bail-hearing will decide whether they should be kept in the jail or be released on bail.

Defendants include Madan Puri, 28, of Itahari Sub Metropolitan City, currently staying at Chahabil, Santosh Puri of Itahari Sub Metropolitan City-19, currently at Kapan, and three other police officials.

Similarly, police officials are Assistant Head Constable Khaga Raj Adhikari, 33, of Annapurna Rural Municipality-1, Kaski, Police Constable Bhuwan Baral, 22, of Pokhara Metropolitan City-27, Kaski, and ASI Sun Bahadur Tamang, 43, of Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-3, Dhading.

Complainant Kumar Roka had filed the case at the District Court, Kathmandu stating that five people including three police personnel robbed him of Rs 47,500 on the night of October 9. Acting on an FIR, three police officials were arrested on October 10 and Madan and Santosh were detained on October 11.

This is how the robbery took place
A police squad under the command of Sun Bahadur Tamang had been deployed in the areas including TU Teaching Hospital, Sheetal Niwas, Panipokhari, Sangrila Hotel from 10 am (October 9) to 10 am (October 10). They are based at Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj.

ASI Tamang and Police Constable Bhuwan Baral got off the CRV van and went to shut down a shop near TU Teaching Hospital. Driver Assistant Head constable Khagaraj Adhikari, who was inside the vehicle, called Santosh Puri (Kapan) and Madan Puri (Chahabil). It was 10:30 pm (October 9). When they arrived, Santosh then rang up Nawaraj Nagarkoti and told him to bring three girls to Oman Restaurant, Maharajgunj. Nawaraj sent three girls in a vehicle, Ba 5 Cha 5039, belonging to Kumar Roka.

They met at Panipokhari. Complainant Roka in the case has mentioned that he was intercepted and manhandled by the police warning where he was taking the girls to in the middle of the night.

Then, the vehicle which Roka was driving, was taken to TU Teaching Hospital. The three girls were hauled up inside the police van and taken to the street of Nirmal Niwas where they were asked for Rs 150,000.

Kumar Roka, then, deposited Rs 30,000 in the e-Sewa account of Santosh Puri. Nawaraj Nagarkoti, Kumar Roka along with the three girls were released after depositing the money.

ASI Tamang, in his statement to the police, denied robbery nor did he notice the girls in the vehicle.

However, Baral and Adhikari, on the other hand, have stated that Tamang was also involved in the case, according to police.
