Women's T20 Quadrangular Series: Nepal defeats Japan to secure third place

Nepal has secured third place by defeating Japan by 44 runs in the Women's T20 Quadrangular Series held in Hong Kong on Sunday.

Nepal restricted Japan to 70 runs while the latter was chasing the 115-run target given by Nepal.

Akari Nishimura made the highest 29 runs including two fours followed by Hinase Goto and Ahilya Chandel with 16 and 11 runs, respectively. The other batters could not reach double-digit runs.

On the bowling side, Sangita Rai, Indu Barma, Sita Rana Magar, Khusi Dangol and Sony Pakhrin took one wicket each for Nepal.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss at the Wong Nai Cricket Ground, Nepal notched up 115 runs losing five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Puja Mahato topped the score with 43 runs including three fours off 51 balls followed by Roma Thapa, Rubina Chhetry and Indu Barma with 22, 21 and 12 runs, respectively. The other batters did not score double-digit runs.

In reply, Ahilya Chandel, Erika Toguchi-Quinn and Ayumi Fujikawa took one wicket each for Japan.

Earlier, Nepal had defeated Japan by 67 runs in the last match of the group stage held on Saturday. Nepal, Tanzania, Japan and Hong Kong are participating in the four-nation series. After coming up as winners and runners-up of the group stage, Tanzania and Hong Kong will play for the title later today.
