At least 18 people were killed after lightning struck them in the Indian State of Gujarat on Sunday, Indian media outlets said.

It was not expected that such a big storm would lash out at Gujarat, leaving hundreds of people in panic, during winter.

Although dozens of people die in India every year due to floods and lightning, scientists say that the increasing global temperature is causing unprecedented disasters.

At least 20 people died due to heavy rain-triggered storms and 18 of them have died due to lightning, Gujarat State Officials said in a statement on Sunday.

Similarly, at least 40 animals were also killed due to rain and lightning.
