A Nepali youth has been arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly woman in Pithoragarh of the Indian State of Uttarakhanda.

Ripendra Nath, 26, of Mugu, who had gone to India for employment, was apprehended on the charge of slaying 65-year-old Madhavi Chilkoti of Suwakot Badda.

Nath has admitted to have killed the woman in a fit of rage after being evicted from the rented room by the woman, according to Indian media outlets.

Madhavi was found dead in her room on Sunday. Her one son is in England. She had rented out her house based in Suwakot, Pithoragarh.

Three Nepali migrant workers including Nath had been staying in the rented room of the deceased’s house in Suwakot.

Madhavi had been frequently travelling between New Delhi and Suwakot.

She had come to Suwakot a few days ago. She had told Nath to leave the room for his drunk behavior and messing up the room.

According to police, Nath barged into the room of Madhavi on Saturday night and killed her by gagging her with a pillow and decamped with the cash kept in the room.

Indian police took him under control while he was sneaking into Nepal via Jhulalghat. Police seized IRs 13,000, a gold ring and purse from his.

Police assigned to investigate the case had launched a manhunt for Nath based on the CCTV footage.

“A Nepali youth has been arrested on the charge of murdering a woman while he was planning to sneak into Nepal,” Indian media outlets quoted CO Narendra Panta of Pithoragarh as saying. “He has admitted to have killed the woman.”

Bishal, the nephew of Madhavi, had filed an FIR at the police station.
