FM Saud and his Indian counterpart Jaishankar hold JC meeting

Discuss issues including connectivity, trade, transit, electricity, water resources

Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Prakash Saud and Minister for External Affairs of India Dr S Jaishankar have held a bilateral meeting in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Held at Hotel Yak and Yeti, various aspects of Nepal-India relations and mutual interests were discussed during the 7th Meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission which was co-chaired by the two ministers, the Foreign Ministry said.

“Various aspects of Nepal-India relations under the thematic areas of economic relations, connectivity, trade and transit, power and water resources, education and culture and political matters were discussed in the JC meeting,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Prior to this, Nepal and India inked a long-term agreement on electricity. Secretaries of both countries signed on the document in the presence of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Shakti Bahadur Basnet.

With the signing of the agreement, the bilateral understanding to export 10,000 megawatts of electricity from Nepal to India in the next ten years has been materialized.

Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Gopal Sigdel and India's Energy Secretary Pankaj Agrawal signed on the agreement paper on behalf of their respective sides.

Visiting Minister for External Affairs of India Jaishankar who arrived in Nepal on a two-day official visit paid a courtesy call on President Ramchandra Paudel at Sheetal Niwas. Issues of mutual interests including Nepal-India connectivity to mitigation of climate change effects and development of hydropower were discussed during the meeting with Jaishankar, according to Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel.

After holding meeting with President Paudel, Jaishankar held a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in Singha 

According to the schedule, Foreign Minister NP Saud will host a dinner reception for Jaishankar today evening.

Jaishankar will inaugurate the infrastructure building of TU library and rebuilding of some facilities destroyed by the earthquake before returning to New Delhi on Friday.
