EC making public final voter-list for NA elections today

The Election Commission (EC) is making public the final list of voters for the elections of the 19 members to the National Assembly.

There are a total of 2,047 voters for the National Assembly elections to be held on January 25, according to the elections.

On January 5, the Commission in a notice called for complaints, if any, including the correction of voter's name, surname, age, position, etc., or if anyone is missing in the voter-list.

Having completed all these processes, the EC is making public the final name-list of the voters today.

The terms of 20 lawmakers are expiring on coming March 3. Of them, 19 vacancies of lawmakers will be fulfilled through elections while one will be nominated by the President based on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

A provision has it that the vacancies in the NA should be fulfilled one month prior to the expiry of the terms through the elections.

Terms of 20 lawmakers expiring on March 3
The six-year terms of 20 lawmakers of National Assembly including Chairman Ganesh Timilsina are expiring on March 3. Of them, 9 are from CPN (UML), 4 from Nepali Congress, 3 from CPN (Maoist Center), 2 from CPN (Unified Socialist) and 1 each from Janata Samajbadi Party and 1 independent.

Ganesh Prasad Timilsina (chairman), Deepa Gurung (Gandaki), Indu Kadariya (Sudurpaschim), Khimlal Bhattarai (Lumbini), Dilkumari Rawal Thapa (Bagmati), Ramchandra Rai (Bagmati), Narpati Luwar (Karnali), Bhairav Sundar Shrestha (Karnali) and Bimala Rai Paudyal (nominated by the President) are from UML.

Similarly, the terms of Congress lawmakers Anita Devkota (Lumbini), Jitendra Narayan Dev (Madhesh), Prakash Pantha (Gandaki) and Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi (Koshi) are also expiring on March 3.

Those whose terms are expiring include Mahesh Kumar Mahara (Sudurpaschim), Hari Ram Chaudhary (Sudurpaschim) and Bina Pokharel (Koshi) from Maoist Center.

Likewise, the terms of Unified Socialist lawmakers Nanda Chapagain (Karnali) and Singa Bahadur Bishwakarma (Bagmati) are expiring on March 3.

Other members whose terms are expiring on March 3 are Pramila Kumari (Madhesh) from JSP and one independent (Khimlal Devkota) from Bagmati Province.

In the 59-member National Assembly, the term of one-third of the members was determined by the lottery for 6 years, the other one-third for 4 years and the remaining one-third for 2 years.  

 The six-year term of 20 members is expiring on March 3.
