The Shekhar Koirala-led faction of Nepali Congress has come up with a decision not to agree until they get four seats in the National Assembly.

A meeting of the Shekhar faction held at Bishalnagar with General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Vice President Dhanraj Gurung on Sunday concluded that they won’t budge an inch from the 4-seat bottom line.

According to Bal Bahadur KC, one of the leaders who participated in the meeting of this faction, the Bishalnagar meeting ended with a decision to float this stand in the party office-bearers meeting.

Following the stand taken by the Shekhar faction, the office-bearers’ meeting could not finalize the names of candidates. The meeting is still underway at the party central office, Sanepa.

"The office bearers are holding discussions at the party office. We have come to the conclusion that we will not budge an inch from what we decided in Bishalnagar meeting,” KC told Nepalkhabar, "Our point is clear, there should be a fair share.”

The Shekhar-led group has concluded that if there is no agreement on four seats, it will move ahead on its own by formulating a new strategy.

The faction held a meeting in Bishalnagar to formulate a strategy to be presented in the office-bearers’ meeting of the party.

The ruling alliance meeting held on Sunday morning agreed to give 10 seats to the Congress.

On Monday, parties are registering candidacies for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25.
