Political parties are filing nominations today for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25.
Nominations are being filed at the election officer’s office set up at the provincial capital across the country.
Krishna Prasad Sitaula from Nepali Congress, Champa Devi Karki from CPN (Maoist Center) filed their nominations at 10 am in the capital city of Biratnagar in Koshi Province.
According to Udhhav Thapa, the President of Nepali Congress Koshi Province Committee, both the leaders had reached Biratnagar on Sunday evening for registering their candidacies.
Nepali Congress has given ticket to Sitaula in Koshi as per the share of the ruling coalition. Similarly, the Maoist Center has picked Champa Devi Karki from Okhaldhunga.
Former general secretary of Nepali Congress Sitaula lost the House of Representatives elections twice in a row in Jhapa 3. He was defeated by Rajendra Lingden of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
Likewise, CPN (UML) has chosen Parshuram Adhikari from Bhojpur and Rukmini Koirala from Sunsari. Adhikari is the central member, and also the Sunsari district deputy in-charge of UML.
UML is filing nominations at 1 pm. “The election officer's office has given the time at 1 pm for filing nominations,” said Ghanshyam Khatiwada, the chairman of the UML Koshi Province Committee.
Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party has fielded Uddhav Paudel as its candidate from Koshi.
Since the ruling coalition has a majority in the National Assembly, it is certain that the alliance will win all 19 seats.
