Tarakeshwor Municipality held a ceremony to mark the first sale of 1140 kilograms of freshly harvested vegetables under the sustainable agricultural development program supported by the China foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) on Tuesday.

The vegetables were grown by 40 students after being trained by the Enlai Foundation and guided by the Chongqing experts.

According to the Enlai Foundation, more than 300 kilograms of cauliflower, 500 kilograms of lettuce, 140 kilograms of tomatoes, 100 kilograms of potatoes, and 100 kilograms of other vegetables were sold in the first lot in the municipality.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Bhakta Narayan Maharjan, the president of the Bagmati Province Agricultural Federation, Ward 6 Chair Ghanashyam Shrestha, stated that this opening ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter in sustainable agricultural development.

“The sale of freshly harvested vegetables served as a tangible outcome of the training and support provided by CFRD, NLF, Chongqing experts, and the Enlai Foundation,” said Maharjan.

Similarly, ward 2 Chair Radha Krishna Khadgi, Mina Kumari Thapa, the head of the Municipality’s Agricultural Department, shared valuable insights, emphasizing on the collaborative efforts between governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations on the occasion.

This initiative, supported by the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) and New Light Foundation (NLF), focuses on skill development training in Nepal, specifically in cultivating and selling of off-seasonal vegetable production. The project, bolstered by the expertise of Chongqing experts, aims to contribute to sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

The China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) launched "The First Sustainable Development Experimental Village in Nepal" in Tarakeshwor Municipality of Kathmandu on May 29, 2023, with an objective of fostering rural sustainable development.

Under this program, CFRD has successively launched the Off-seasonal Vocational Skills Training in Agriculture, Village Water System Project, Panda Pack Project and Smiling Children Project.
