"A curfew has been imposed in Birgunj Metropolitan City since 5 pm today due to a religious tension," reads the notice issued by the District Police Office, Parsa.

A dispute broke out between two religious groups - - Hindu and Muslim communities – in course of immersing an idol of Goddess of Saraswati in Motirampur in Ishnath Municipality of Rautahat.

Clashes broke out in two different places in Birgunj on Sunday.

The curfew will be effective in the area stretching to Nagawa Chowk in the east, Tilawa Bridge in the west, Parwanipur in the north, and Bhansar Miteri Bridge in the South, said CDO Bhusal.
