Professor Dr. Keshar Jung Baral has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, the oldest university of Nepal.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal appointed Baral to the post on Thursday.
Baral is the former Vice Chancellor of Pokhara University.
TU Vice Chancellor Recommendation Committee had recommended Professor Dr. Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki, Professor Dr. Tanka Nath Dhamala and Baral for the post of Vice Chancellor on Sunday.
Baral is considered close to the CPN (Maoist Center).
Earlier, on February 9, the Recommendation Committee made public a short of 14 people.
TU had on January 8 announced the vacancy for the appointment of Vice Chancellor through open competition.
As many as 43 candidates had submitted their applications for the post of Vice-Chancellor. Fourteen candidates were shortlisted out of them.
Kushum Shakya, Keshar Jung Baral, Govinda Subedi, Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki, Gyanendra Prasad Paudel, Tankanath Dhamala, Tirtha Raj Khaniya, Narayan Prasad Belbase, Prakash Ghimire, Bhoj Raj Aryal, Mahendra Prasad Sharma, Ram Chandra Basnet, Shiva Lal Bhusal and Surya Thapa had been short-listed.
