Nepal clinches win against Namibia in nail-biting T20 series

Nepal defeated Namibia by three runs in a nail-biting cricket match under the tri-nation T20 Series held in Kirtipur on Friday.

Nepal restricted Namibia to 177 runs while the latter was chasing the 181-runs target set by Nepal.

To restrict the opponent from advancing into the target, Karan KC, Sompal Kami and Dipendra Singh Airee grabbed two wickets each while Abinash Bohara claimed one wicket.

Chasing the target, skipper JJ Smit made the highest 50 runs including six fours and two sixes off 26 balls while Jan Frylinck, JP Kotze  and Zane Green contributed  37, 25 and 23 runs, respectively. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.

Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Nepal notched up 180 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Kushal Malla topped the score with 55 runs including one four and four sixes off 37 balls while Aarif Sheikh, Gulsan Jha and Anil Sah made 31, 26 and 23 runs. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.

In reply, Ben Shikongo took the highest three runs followed by Jack Brassell with two wickets while Ruben Trumpelmann, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Bernard Scholtz took equal one wicket.

Nepal had lost to Namibia by 20 runs in the first match, faced a two-run defeat against Netherlands in the second match. Today’s match was a must-win match for Nepal to maintain a journey to the final.

Nepal will play Netherlands in the last match of the tri-nation T20 series in Kirtipur on Saturday.
