The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has directed its lawmakers to cast votes of confidence for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

A parliamentary party (PP) meeting of the RSP held on Tuesday morning issued a whip instructing its lawmakers to cast votes of confidence for Prime Minister Prachanda.

“The meeting has decided to cast votes of confidence for Prime Minister Prachanda,” said Dr Mukul Dahal, the general secretary and spokesperson of the party, “A whip has been issued to all the lawmakers instructing them to be present in the parliament and cast votes of confidence for Prime Minister Prachanda."

Prime Minster Prachanda is taking the vote of confidence on Wednesday (March 13).

Prime Minister Prachanda on March 4 formed a new coalition comprising CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Center), RSP, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and CPN (Unified Socialist). This alliance has a comfortable majority.

The Nepali Congress on March 5 withdrew its support to the government after the then seven-party alliance was dissolved the other day. A constitutional provision has it that the prime minister has to take the vote of confidence within 30 days after a party withdraws its support to him.

Prime Minister Prachanda, who took the helm of the government on December 26, 2022, is taking the vote of confidence for the third time.

On January 10, 2023, he took the vote of confidence for the first time and on March 20, 2023 for the second time.
