Ukrainian Army unveils 5 Nepali war prisoners

The Ukrainian Army has made public 10 foreign armies including five Nepalis taken captive as prisoners of war (PoW) in the course of fighting against Russia.

Five Nepali people including Prateek Pun of Rolpa, who was recently staying at Bijauri in Dang, were made public in Ukraine on Friday.

The others unveiled by the Ukrainian Army are Bibek Khatri of Rajapur Municipality-1, Bardiya, Siddhartha Dhakal of Mandandeupur Municipality-6, Kavre, Bikash Rai of Letang-2, Morang, Prateek Pun of Dang, Sujan Subedi of Khairahani, Chitwan and Ishwar Lamichhane of Gorkha.

After Prateek was captured by the Ukrainian army, his family members applied to the Department of Consular Services to have them recognized as a prisoner of war (POW).

The family members have urged the Consular Department to help repatriate these Nepalis taken captive by the Ukrainian Army.

According to international news agencies, those unveiled by the Ukrainian Army on Friday are five Nepalis, three Cubans and one each from Somalia and Sierra Leone.

Making the prisoners of war public, Ukraine has urged the concerned countries to stop their citizens from joining the Russian Army again Ukraine.

These prisoners were made public to convey messages that third countries should not be involved in the Russia-Ukraine war, the Ukrainian government has said.
